How it began?

The Worth Valley Explorer Unit is a collaboration of the Fell Lane, Ingrow, Haworth and Oakworth Scout groups; working together to provide the next adventure in Scouting. Opening in 2018.

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Give back

Explorers are encouraged to give back to Scouting by volunteering some of their time helping other sections (Predominantly Cubs, Beavers & Squirrels), not only does this help these sections by having more hands to help, it also increases our Explorers ability to:

• Work as part of a team by working with Adult Volunteers

• Develop leadership skills through running activities

• Learn advanced problem solving by programme planning

• Develop a sense of accomplishment through voluntary work

• Develop communication skills

• Grow a sense of responsibility

Why Explorers

One of the many exciting perks of the being an Explorer Scout is the opportunity to take part in the Young Leaders' Scheme. The Young Leaders' Scheme helps Explorer Scouts develop their leadership and communication skills. As a Young Leader, Explorer Scouts will volunteer to help run a Beaver, Cub or Scout section. They will work with the Leader to plan the section’s Programme, run activities and share their Scouting skills with younger Scouts. When Explorers complete the Scheme, they receive the Young Leader Service Award which they can reference in university and job applications.

Grow from Giving

Explorer Scouts experience life-changing opportunities and develop important skills by working towards badges and top awards. Explorer Scouts is the fourth section in the Scout Movement for 14 to 18-year-olds. In this section, young people enjoy the independence of planning their own incredible adventures with their Explorer Unit.

Our Ethos

We want to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. One of the cornerstone ideologies of Worth Valley Explorers is our Explorers (from Haworth, Oakworth, Fell Lane & Ingrow) Volunteer their time at one of the other groups. This benefits the group and the individual by:☼ Reducing the unknown factor of moving to a new section and encouraging Scouts from other groups towant to join Worth Valley Explorers☼ Developing the Explorers abilities to work in new situations and learn new skills, all adding to shaping a robust young adult.

Explorer Scouts experience life-changing opportunities and develop important skills by working towards badges and top awards. Our Explorer Scouts will be able to work towards their Chief Scout Platinum, Diamond, Explorer Belt and all the Duke of Edinburgh awards. These awards are more recognised than ever for university and job applications and the experiences from earning these awards will stay with our members all through adulthood.
